Press Release

CBOT Mini-Sized Dow Shatters Former Daily Volume Record - October 9, 2002

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced that volume in its CBOT mini-sized Dow Jones Index futures, which trades exclusively on the exchange's electronic platform, set a new daily record on October 9, 2002 trading 27,049 contracts, breaking the previous record of 20,800 contracts set on September 19. Since its launch in April 2000, average monthly growth in the CBOT mini-sized Dow has been 17%, one of strongest new product performance in exchange history.

The new daily volume record was reached a few weeks after the CBOT launched a major marketing campaign for the mini-sized Dow in September, including a new Dow Complex Portal at www.cbot.com/dow. In an industry first, the portal includes real-time streaming quotes including Depth of Market ("the book"). This function allows traders to view on their trading screen the best 10 bid-ask prices and orders current in the market.

The portal also offers, free of charge, an on-line interactive seminar, a real-time trading simulator, and an online investor tutorial.
